Patricia Minnock (ANP-Rheumatology), from Our Ladys’ Hospice and Care Services, Dublin, and Deirdre McNamee (Rheumatology Nurse Practitioner) from Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry, recognised the need to form an all-Ireland forum for nurses working in the rapidly growing speciality of rheumatology.
The first meeting in May 2004 was attended by 40 nurses from both the South and North of Ireland. Keynote speaker was Dr Janice Mooney, RCN Rheumatology Nursing Forum, who presented on ‘The Development and Remit of the RCN Rheumatology Nursing Forum’.
At this meeting it was agreed to establish the IRNF. The first formal meeting of the IRNF took place on 10th September 2004.
Membership is open to all registered nurses working in clinical practice in rheumatology. Membership fees of €20.00/ Stg 17.00 are due by 31st January annually.
The annual subscription for membership will be determined yearly by the committee. Subscription rates apply to a calendar year and, are due annually on March 1st.
The Forum will meet at least once a year. This will include the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The quorum for the AGM shall be ten.

Amendments to the Constitution should be requested in writing, submitted to the Secretary at least one month before the AGM and must be passed by a two-thirds majority at the AGM.

The Chairperson shall be elected by committee at the AGM. The duration of the office of the Chairperson will be TWO years. The Chairperson shall not normally be eligible for re-election to that office
The Secretary shall be elected by committee at the AGM. Duration of office of the secretary shall be THREE years. The Secretary shall not be eligible for election to two consecutive terms of office
The Treasurer shall be elected by council at the AGM. Duration of office of the Treasurer shall be THREE years. The Treasurer shall not be eligible for election to two consecutive terms of office
The education officer shall be elected by council at the AGM. Duration of office shall be TWO years. The Educational Officer shall NOT be eligible for election to two consecutive terms of office
